The Contest: Videocreación Dulcinea, The Unattainable Woman, is one of seven of national and international projects that the Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre Foundation has launched for this Cervantes’ Anniversary year. Gathered under the slogan; ACÉRCATE A CERVANTES (DRAW CLOSER TO CERVANTES), all these projects have been a challenge for the participating artists whom we invited to look at Cervantes' work face to face from nowadays and through artistic disciplines such as illustration, urban art, rap music or, in this case, video-creation.
The following audiovisual work contains the three winning creations in the International Contest: Videocreación Dulcinea; The Unattainable Woman, as well as a selection of 23 proposals out of the 124 video-creations from the 41 participating countries.
The participants were posed the following questions: Who are today’s Dulcineas? Do they know they are? Who created them? Among the topics discussed: The pressure on teenage girls to have a perfect body because of the aesthetic canons imposed by advertising; Stereotypes of women as a muse or as a femme fatale; How the ideal woman changes according to periods and fashions; The difference between the ideal and the carnal; Women as a conquest of man throughout history or transsexuality, in which the ideal woman is not the one desired by the man but the woman he longs to be.
The first prize for video-creation has been awarded to Ruben Martin for; A tí (To You), a second prize goes to Gonzalo Marcuzzi and Teresa Rodriguez del Pozo for; Dulcineas de los balcones, (Dulcineas of the Balconies) and a third, awarded by the audience’s vote at the 39th Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre, goes to the work La venus fantasma (The Phantom Venus) by Miguel Lazaro Bernuy.
